Becoming an Adult

i knew

i was an adult

when i was sleeping on the floor

not enough food to eat

i saw

i worried

where is the next house going to be

next school i will see

new friends i would have to meet

where is the stability

i wished to see

Mom

i will get a job

to make ends meet

i became a caregiver

no more was i a sister or a daughter

i became a guardian

"let me speak with the landlord"

"let me come in early to work extra hours"

"let me pay you back on Tuesday"

let me

let me

let me make ends meet
