Because I Love You

You yell at me and make me feel useless.

You tell me I can’t have fun

because there would be no one to watch my sister.

You deny me a chance at happiness

Because you can’t take care of your own child.

You made me want to leave and never come back.

You say it’s because you love me.

But what does love even mean?

To you, it means to give and take.

But you take way more than you give.

To me it means caring

But do you even care a little bit about me?

He told me it was fine.

He told me that it would get better,

But how can it ever get better

when I’m surrounded by your ‘love’

Do you know how it feels?

To be torn down day after day?

To go through life being a failure?

When I finally met someone to care about

You told me he wasn’t right.

You told me he could never love me.

I believed you.

You said he would leave me.

I don’t care how he feels.

I will stay with him because I love him.

Love isn’t about you.

Love is about me.

Love is about the person receiving.

I will always give my all.

I will always love people.

And when my kids ask me why….

I will tell them

“Because I love you”

And they will never have to question the meaning

Or why I say it.
