Beast of burden

It’s me!

One side of the coin, I am a child

Another side, I am more than a child…

A mother, a father, a brother, sister, aunt…

Who am I?

Mothers take care of their children

Fathers take care of their families

Brothers and sisters look after each other

Aunts take a responsibility for everyone

So where do I fit?

I take care of my family

I take care of other children

I share my time, my love,

My happiness with them but

Not my tears…Oh!

I am a beast of burden

I protect my family spiritually and physically

In times of s o r r o w,

I bring happiness for tomorrow

Risking my life and dismissing my peace

It’s me Lindiwe the beast of burden

It’s me who is there for them all

In beauty or hideous moments

In sweet or sour times

To my family and others

I am a beast of burden

It’s me who receive bad or good news

Making decisions and way forward

Silencing the bad mood

Gearing the good mood

What am I carrying honestly…?

B l e s s i n g s or g r a c e,

Misfortunes or burdens?

This is a sigh of my tiresome state

I don’t have straight patterns and paths

Not for my problems but

Everyone’s d i l e m a

I am a beast of burden!

It’s me Lindiwe the mother, the father

The sister, the brother and the aunt!
