What does it feel like to be me?
Not having to hide in the shadows
While the monsters lurk among me
As their venomous words roll off their tongue
"You are nothing more than the ground I walk on"

To open up like the break of dawn
To close my ears to all the negativity
To put to shame what was wrong

What does it feel like to be me?
Without the monsters in control
Or the denial of myself
To be me,
Who I want to be
And not on trial for who I am
