Ballad 1

The rays of golden light danced down planes of dark skin

Like the warm blankets

They wrap babies in

When they thrust into this new world

With an angry cry

With destiny clasped tightly

Within their hands and wonder behind their eyes

To rise from slumber

And call day a friend,

To look this life in the face

With rested honor

Before day light may end.
