The Badge
White man asks black boy what he wants to be when he grows up
Black boy looks back with a smile and says alive
White man laughs
We are taken for jokes before we are taken for humans
You can call us the problem but be the first with the situation
Grab the gun Kill em
Who cares no one will remember him
He said the blacker the berry the sweeter the juice
I say the blacker the body the harder he falls
Bodies replaced with headstones
Names replaced with protest
First its rope next its whip now it's gun
They say America is the land of the free
But if you're black you pay a price
3 shots in the back 1 through the head
Our streets are mistaken for war zones
Our bodies being our only armour
Placed in a war we won’t win
Our mothers praying to god to protect us from a life of sin
What she’ll never understand
Is the devil isn’t red
He’s the white man who carries the badge .
