Baby Bird
From birth I was attached
More than most I think
I couldn’t handle being handed to a stranger
Not for daycare or kindergarten or the grades after that
I could tell it was hard for you too
Seeing me kick and scream and bite as you walked away
But I rejoiced every day when you picked me up again
Now I’m much older and I still need your love
I’m your duckling and I don’t want to grow up
You must feel the same but I can’t see it now
You want to empty your nest mama?
I don’t think I can leave
I’m trying, I really am but I love you too much
I don’t want a new flock
But you push me towards it
Alright mama, I get it
Goodbye mama, I’ll fly back in the summer
