Awake

I haven't slept in four years and I've never felt more awake.

My skin has never been so sensitive to your touch,

My breath has never glided this smoothly, ripples across a lake,

Until now.

Now, with you, I have never been more at peace.

My heart opened when you closed your hand around mine, looked me in the eyes and said,

"You've got this baby," and "We're in this together."

No matter the weather or if my heart is feeling heavy, it's still yours

To have and to hold

While we're still young and when we grow old.

Even when my corpse is covered in nothing but maggots and mold,

I would reach a skeletal hand towards yours because

There is no life after death without you.
