Awake
Sleepy morning I awake
As the sun just breaks dawn
The city hustling, bustling, rolling
Hours before I yawn
Good morning, life.
The city rushes with energy
As I stroll down the streets in peace
People running to and fro
This place never sleeps
Slow down, life. Breathe.
The cabs hum rhythmic little tunes
The city dances, alive with soul
Beep beep goes the trumpet and car horns
Everything moves, but I am on hold
I skip down the block, no anticipation
Moving to the beat of my own tune
Enjoying myself and forgetting the rest
Life’s too short to be wasted so soon
Art ‘round every corner
Picnics to be held at the park
Warmth to be found in every café
Dancing and drinking and partying ‘til dark
Jazz up your life.
The night dies down
But the city doesn’t relent
Still moving to a quiet chaos
I reflect on a day well spent
Oh what a life.
