The burdens of this world resemble
heavy fists pounding into weak shoulders.
going lower and lower until
Knees meets Earth,
Back meets soil,
Head meets fresh grave with an
unmarked tombstone.
bones run,
punched out of the race for the life
taken away.
Eye sockets notice white wrists,
remembering the same thick silver that constricted these arms
this voice of once called
Garvey to the unknown people.
The hallow mouth begins to pray for the
afro-puffed feminists that sit in corners
trying to remember a homeland they’d never seen.
A land where their feet felt the ground
Moving with each rhythmic step as
Hips swayed with arms to balance water-pails of innocence.
Here,
They are outliers
Forever seen as X.
