Anthem of the Broken

Sat, 01/18/2014 - 15:23 -- apetrig

Fallen angels and swirling phantoms

Hold onto dreams you haven’t had yet

Reach all your hands into the world’s light

And take a piece for yourselves

Because we are the broken

We are the ones that were left behind

We watched as they stepped on our souls

And barely flinched when they spat at our feet

We are the hardened

We’ve survived the loss of our innocence

And we can only mend what was left broken

Scattered shadows and tired souls

Scream at the monsters that stripped skin to bone

They reached with claws and knives alike

And left us skeletons in the black

Because we are the broken

We are the ones that were left behind

We watched as they stepped on our souls

And barely flinched when they spat at our feet

We are the hardened

We’ve survived the loss of our innocence

And we can only mend what was left broken

They have no compassion

No wish to see us pull ourselves together

So we’ll scream out loud

And take their breath away
