Anchors

Location

I cannot see what is around me,

I cannot see what is below,

I can see the sky's light above me

But it's warmth I'm not allowed to know.

The anchor around my ankle prevents me

from swimming to the top.

I thought maybe, just maybe

I'd drown, and the pressure of the ocean would release me.

Nothing to amputate with and an endless blue to reflect my plight.

And maybe I would drown tonight, I might, I just might.

But I don't.T

he light shines above to tease me, each and every day,

and here I'm tied to the anchor,

and with the ocean currents I sway.
