America the Damaged

A place of freedom,

So they say.

A place of free speech, of free education,

But you have to sensor your words in public and pay for college.

A place of free religion,

Yet Muslims are despised and Christians threaten.

A place of free choice,

However, drugs are banned and gays are unable to marry whomever they like.

A place of dreams,

But the only one we have is to earn more money to buy our food.

A place of representation,

Yet Congress is full of corrupt politicians.

It sounds good, this America,

However, here there are so many problems that we, as Americans,

Need to fix more than anything else,

Since we, as Americans,

Have to live here in this damaged country,

Land of the free and home of the brave.

Or so they say.

This poem is about:
My country
