America: Are we truly free?
Desolate streets of hungry souls
Arms outstretched, crying of pain
All they want is this suffering to end.
Does no one care?
No home, No job, No friends
Are we truly created equal?
Night time streets
Quiet steps
A young girl walks home from work
Alone or so she thinks
A hooded figure dressed in black
Follows her down an alleyway out back
Grabs her arm
Draws a knife
The girl stifles a scream
She's now hostage and a sex slave for life
Does no one care?
She fears for her life.
Men don't face this type of life.
She thinks as she's hauled off into the night.
Are we truly free?
School for of white children
All dressed up
Young girl of other color shows up
Her clothing not new
Hair unkempt
She comes from a broken home
Family in poverty and debt
But no one knows her story
No one hears her cries
The school is full of rumors and lies
They all make fun of the young girl
With old worn clothes and watery eyes
Does no one care?
Are we truly one people?
The United States Constitution begins
With a preamble statement of assurance
That we are all one people, a nation, a whole.
It startes with the line:
We the people of the United States...
WE as in all, inclusive, everyone in the country.
Yet in today's society, this doesn't fit anymore.
We aren't one people;
I don't think we ever truly were.
Yet, here we are with the Constitution,
proclaiming we are one people of a great nation.
But are we truly one?
The Preamble to the Constitution
We the people of the United States
In order to form a more perfect union
Establish justice and ensure domestic tranquility
Provide for the common defense,
Promote the general welfare
And secure the blessings of liberty
To ourselves and our prosperity
Do ordain and establish the Constitution
For the United States of America.
There are many things
in this preamble that states
that we are one nation
there's welfare, protection,
and security to all in the nation.
Do you see that every day?
Each day in society
People are
bullied, abused, raped, murdered,
Shot, hung, slaughtered, or suicidal
We aren't equal
We aren't entirely safe
Are we one people?
No, we're broken
We've been neglected, abused
separated and segregated
But throughout the years
We've worked through all the negatives and fears
to become the ideal nation
one of freedom, hope, and protection.
We may not be completely free
But I'm still proud to be an American citizen
I will stand up to help those in need.
Like the bullied girl in school
Or the hungry and homeless on the street.
We may not be able to help them completely,
But together we can get them back up on their feet.
Will you join me?
Will you help me show the world
We Are Free?
