America, America
Where I can walk down the street and get shot for being me
Where people shout at the top of their lungs for me to leave their country
Even though the border crossed me
America was a land for immigrants
The Statue of Liberty stood as a glimpse of hope for the newly arrived
But now she sighs as she sees the light fade in her torch
As refugees are denied
She weeps for those who need a home
Who came here to escape the violence and war and horror that America herself started
It’s where xenophobia thrives against adversity
And racism flourishes
It is where black people can’t justify their right to live
Because people believe all lives matter
I guess Trayvon Martin’s life mattered so much
he lost it.
Black people can scream black lives matter
Because Sandra Bland died at the hands of those who were supposed to defend and protect
But others shout back all lives matter
As they stand and shake the bloody hands of the ones who took her life
Never forget
America is filled with hatred and ignorance
However,
It can change
America can become a place of love and acceptance
But it’ll take time and efforts
We most speak out against the hate
Speak up for those who can’t
Make our voices heard and make a change
