Alone
Location
Millions pass by yet I am alone,
Watching, waiting for a single one to think;
"I'll give you a home."
But they are too busy,
Their lives too full;
Unable to look away from their city,
To look down, to look to me.
I cannot work,
Only scraps I eat,
I cannot work;
I dart between their feet,
They care not, they see not.
I once had a family, a home my own;
an owner who loved,
a bed, a home.
But my mother, though human;
Was old, she was frail,
On her lap would I purr,
But soon she grew pale.
"Out! out! be gone!" They yelled,
Come for their inheritance,
Not because they cared, I could tell.
Then here, I came
Now here I am,
Watching, waiting, wishing;
Listening, looking;
Hoping.
But I, am alone.
