Adult

It is like a rain forest

The vines entangle your mind

You feel the animals bite

It is like nature is trying to kill you with a single choice

You blow out candles

And blow out your childhood

It is like suffocation

You can no longer breath

You reach a realization

A fear you’ve always had

One you can avoid for only so many years

But now the dreaded time has come

The weight is crushing your shoulders

The title is entangling you in a web

Choices are left and right

Rules are now here to abide

Yesterday you were a struggling teen

Today you are eighteen

And now the world expects everything of you

You fear the future

You fear what cannot be seen

But over the years you’ve learned one thing

With the bad comes the good

Everything works out

You will never be alone

So there you walk forward into a void of the unknown

You fear the future, but you know you have grown

You can face the world with determination

And no longer will you fear adult expectation
