In Absentia

One cannot fathom the absence of thought.
Ambition & glory in cardboard hue,
All that you’ve done has been done for naught.
Paint twined elegant by stroke & by blot—
Synthetics abound, yet beauty to you.
One cannot fathom the absence of thought.
Every life that you’ve loved, every struggle you’ve fought,
Rises in ashes & fades into blue.
All that you’ve done has been done for naught.
A sepulcher vault: the scent of rot.
Taffy that sweetens, each bite that you chew,
One cannot fathom the absence of thought.
Discard every lesson, of which you’ve been taught;
Words prolific are bountifully few.
All that you’ve done has been done for naught.
Relinquish all purpose in which you have sought.
Lost life, last death, the world anew:
One cannot fathom the absence of thought,
All that you’ve done has been done for naught.
