About Kings and Other Things

I stand guard;

I must defend

against anything and everything;

I am sorry, but I cannot let you in,

even if I wanted to,

for I must defend the king

The king who is old and wise

with the most caring of glints in his eyes;

he cares, so much, so, so much for his kingdom,

that he cries, not tears of happiness,

but tears of sadness

The kingdom folk,

they do not appreciate him,

they take, and take without whim to spare;

he desperately wishes for one of them

to care long enough to know him,

to know that he is more than just a king

So you want in you say?

Oh, that will be the day;

will you love him as a friend, or something more?

Will you be the one who holds him close,

and tells him not to cry anymore?

Or will you lie and cheat;

Revel in his vulnerability, and then break him,

break him like waves over a boulder,

wouldn't you? You will say "no",

but I have seen the evil that men do

So I stand guard;

and I must defend

against anyone and anything;

I am so sorry that I cannot let you in,

even if I wanted to, for I must defend the king

who is old and wise,with loving, lonely tears

streaming from his eyes;

I am so sorry that I cannot let you in
