Cleveland.
My Cleveland, no ‘burbs.
The city on the Crooked River, plagued by
construction and
impending
failure.
Schools with no teachers,
teams with no leaders.
Home of the Great Almost
and The King that Should’ve but Didn’t.
I live here.

With bump-ridden roads and
horizon-scrapers, no sky
Trigger-happy cops make the city safer.
They say.
My people roam the streets,
nothing to eat,
rent only $1.
“All black folks are lazy,” they say
Affirmative action makes us seem
like “yes” folks.
Them new J’s got us broker than broke.
And yet, somehow we do what we need to
survive.

To me though,
this is forever home.
Every where I go,
people know where I’m from.

I'm from a city where everything and I mean everything is slowed down
Promethazine is sold now, double cup and poured down
Born and raised in Houston a city with evolution
More latinos and blacks taking over this constitution
Ride with that semi glock, don't make me make that semi pop
Tryna get tough around here and I'll let the semi chop
Heavy shots don't make me start I try and stay violence free
But if these boys think wrong of me I raise the heat and it ain't cheap
Yet none of that is home to me, I'm working for my bread
Taking orders in a restaurant instead busting the lead
No I don't rack stacks I cash 1's 5's and 10's
This paper will always bend but never ever meet ends
