Futility

An old tune plays,
And the feeling sets in.
The deep, dark loneliness
That is buried within.

Even as I go on,
The thoughts enclose me.
I can't escape them,
How can I break free?

I never knew,
What to expect.
But now we are here,
And that hope has set.

Everything hoped for,
Is never what it seems.
And no matter how much you want it,
They'll be broken dreams.

Not a soul has
Understood their worth,
So now, once again,
They'll become one with Earth.

All too soon,
All too quick.
Who would've known,
That'd be what they pick.

But they go on
Not caring for your wants,
Not caring for their needs,
Your heart just taunts.

And so you try,
Try to help them too.
But they're too blind, too gone.
I give up on you.
