National Threat
Location
Somehow I am strong;
They fear my total being.
My brown skin makes murmurs
In crowds where they can see me.
Somehow I am dangerous
With straight hair of darkest night
And dark eyes that
Contrast
The beauty of my might.
Somehow I am powerful
To bring down nations strong
And just my existence
Brings worry to them all.
But I, too, am America
Just like Langston Hughes;
Just like dark-skinned beauties;
Just like ivory too.
Yet somehow they still tremble
And protest for my peace.
Though I am the America.
I am not the least;
I've come from early fathers
And founded peoples near.
Yet somehow they still tremble;
Somehow they still fear.
But I do not doubt
The power that I hold,
For I'm the earliest America.
More my home
Than yours.
