Saga

Fri, 08/09/2013 - 22:33 -- DaXue

Reaching deep within to grasp for a late-night ocean,

The sea that fills with stars, but only when stars emerge.

Heavy gates shut slowly, and then they fill with tears;

They leave those moonlit waters to wrestle with their fears.

All outer routes have folded and no messages escape;

A choking midnight hold encircles all within its snare.

The gaps between the faces of the cliffs will make us break,

And each day leeches hope of keeping the fortresses we take.

The earth on its great axis, that ever-whirling globe

Has never stopped, has never ceased; does she never wish to rest?

Blurs the lines and pays the fines that come with spinning's speed:

The penalties of freedom and the chains that bind the freed.

The walls press ever closer and there will soon be no recourse,

But surrender in this war comes with unimaginable cost.

She wants to run forever, but the world still hems her in

So she will stand and fight and fall or she will fight and win.

A colossus crashes downward as the setting sun winks out

Over numerous vast armies played and fallen on the soil.

A single ray of sunlight touches on a frozen ghost

And shines upon the devastation that has overcome her host.
