Bear Trap

Here I am again,
Curled up and bloodied
-
Snarl held tight,
About to rubber-band snap
At the first thing to come close
-
I can feel the panic
Lightning up my spine
-
And the crazy in my eyes
How they tear around the room
Searching for you
-
My limbs jerk,
My stomach turns
My throat closes
-
And I resist the urge to gnaw
Through my own ankles
To escape
-
They expect me to walk away from this,
But I would be leaving pieces of myself behind
-
And you've already taken so much from me.
