Journey to the (Hopefully) Not-So Distant Future

Do you ever sit down

And imagine performing

A beautiful masterpiece

In front of thousands of people?

I do. Pretty regularly in fact.

I can feel the electricity

Of the lights buting in the air

And the smell of nervous performers

Permeating through the room.

A lady with a headset tells me I’m up.

First the curtain is all I see,

Then the audiences silhouettes in the crowd,

And finally the piano.

I smile and bow.

As my hands touch the keys

Everything feels perfect.

As I start to play, everything else fades away.

I feel the melody swallow me and the harmonys take me captive.

I give in to its powers.

The music carries me away

Because the piece sounds different

Even though I have played it thousands of times.

I hit the last note with a sense of completement

And everything is silent as the tone hangs over the room.

One clap, then another and the room fills with cheers.

I come back to my reality

Sitting in front of my keyboard in my room

Far, far away from a stage.

But I know that someday

That day dream will become a reality

And I will get to hear the cheers

That are meant

Just for me.
