A Phoenix in the Ocean

Inside where the fire rages,

a blasting inferno of a furnace,

I hold desperately onto clumps of coal and gasoline—

trying to gather all the fuel I can

that will blaze way to my future.

The wind and ocean spray is cold as it batters from the outside,

threatening to dampen and extinguish the flame I have tended to

so dearly, so intricately;

but I will never let go,

I will never give up on my personal bonfire.

Yet when the waves swell

and the frost creeps in from the edges as winter arrives,

even as the last flame flickers and dies out

I will rise again from the embers and ashes:

a Pheonix amidst an ocean so vast, it stretches across horizons.

This poem is about:
Me
Our world
