Mannequins And Downcast Eyes

Staple on the fresh skin,

Revel in the new flesh.

Welcome to the void.

Welcome to the bustle of a thousand cities

One busy road, surrounded by encroaching emptiness,

And yet, still lost.

Humanity absent amidst the blur of activity.

Words say nothing

And actions speak no louder.

In the company of millions,

Never is the distance so great.

Eyes to the floor.

Don’t search, don’t want, don’t need.

Disconnect.

This is life.

Falsify a sense of hope

And cling to the illusion of crossroads

While you trace this main drag.

Where else is there to go?

Illusion, the truth universal.

Don’t look up. There’s nothing here to see.

In the company of millions,

Take solace in insignificance.
