When It Was Love

I have known love

It was warm and sweet and kind

This is nothing of love

It hurts and tears me down

When it was love

We spoke on endless nights

Of the adventures we would make of life

But since this is not love

I have nowhere to go and nothing to do

When it was love

I trusted with my mind body and soul

That he always held my best interests at heart

But since this is not love

My wellbeing does not cross his mind often

When it was love

My wrongs were never held against me

And he helped make them right

But since this is not love

Every wrongful doing to a constant reminder

When it was love

A smile was present at almost every text and call

And would appear at any moment in his presence

But since this is not love

A forced smile is due when he asks for one

When it was love

Our words of angry never pushed us apart

They opened the door for us to move forward

But since this is not love

All doors have been shut in my face

When it was love

Reaching my lowest and asking him “why?”

“Because I love you” was said with words and showed with actions

But since this is not love

“Because I love you” is empty

When it was love

I was happy
