Rumpelstiltskin made easy
Rumpelstiltskin is the one fairy tale that I severely judge. As a quick summarization, the miller’s daughter is victim of her father’s insanity. In the original story it starts off as, “Once upon a time there was a miller who was poor, but who had a beautiful daughter. Now it happened that he got into a conversation with the king, and to make an impression on him he said, ‘I have a daughter who can spin straw into gold.’” For some odd reason the king believes him and takes his daughter captive and tells her to spin straw or she’ll die. We all know that she can't spin straw into gold because she is too overcome with sadness and you know the fact that it’s impossible. Out of nowhere appears her unlikely savior who will spin the straw into gold for the price of her ring. This happens two more times with the last collateral being her first born child, which was an obvious yes. Somehow she marries the king and has her baby. She panics when the wizard dwarf man comes to collect his kid. Seeing her pain stricken he strikes a deal that if she can but tell him his name, he will forfeit the deal. After a very close call, she tells him his name and all the gold is turned back into straw which the king just laughs about. If I could retell this tale, I would make it alittle more realistic. Here is what it would look like:
Once upon a time there was a miller who was poor, but who had a beautiful daughter. Now it happened that he got into a conversation with the king, and to make an impression on him he said, "I have a daughter who can spin straw into gold." To which the king replied, “Nice...” He then turned to his guard, who was keeping a strict watch, “Can you get this crazy guy out of here?” The End.
