ODE TO AMERICA- ALEX WALKER

ODE TO AMERICA- ALEX WALKER

America oh America

How great it is to live in Amerikkka

Where white's, black's, gays, and straights

Constantly struggle to relate.

The face of our nation

A man of intolerance and hate

An inevitable war we can not escape

We ask ourselves is this our fate?

My oh my, my country is great

I pledge allegiance to the State.

Liberty and justice a promised commodity

Becoming more of a luxury

Equated to owning property

I thought I was born into a nation of equality.

But some have yet to see the possibility

Of a society where we demonize ignorance and hostility.

To dream of a land where you’re not threatened for practicing Islam

Where a boy who's dad can also be his mom

And to recognize polluting is wrong

It is a fantasy we’ve had all along.

It is the crooks in Washington that have failed

Off on a crusade to destroy what mother nature had to unveil

But if I’m sure of one thing

Mother Earth will prevail.

She'll eradicate on her own the parasites she created

And the day we wake up to smell the coffee is the day we've been defeated

Too many days have gone by that we have waited

We'll cry and shout IT'S ALL TAINTED!

For America has disintegrated.
