Grandmother
Who am I?
Who was I?
Who will I be?
My mind wonders aimlessly as I see you lying at my feet
Though your troubles have ended my world stays troubled still
As I fight to attain all that for me you willed
Through my stomach, you fed me nurturing my mind
Through your lectures, you taught me to skillfully allocate my time
Through your presence, you instilled in me unyielding joy
Through your death, you’ll give me strength to overcome this present an any future loss
My Grandmother, my support, my mentor, and my friend
All good things come to an end to enable the greater to begin
Your memory lives on as I strive for the greatness you always knew I held
I will be a woman dedicated enough to prevail
I will lead a structured life helping others as you helped me
I will show compassion, gratitude, and abundant humility
I will not complain, neither will I dwell
I will hold my head high, and keep the faith above all else
I will make you proud and I will not quit
Using all the life skills that you nurtured me with
As successful as I will be there’s a truth I can’t deny
I’ll be lonely now, my angel. now that you’ve gone to live in the sky
