We Are All Human: A Black Lives Matter Poem

Is it that we’re black?

Because that’s how it feels

But why?
We are all human

The 1400’s started this all

With our hands up against a wall

Getting pat down for being black

Is there anyway we could go back?

Back to the days where everything was okay?

Where we didn’t have to worry

About committing a “crime”

The days police officers didn’t make us cry

Wake up, look in the mirror

And ask myself

“Am I going to die?”
Wondering if i'll see my mom one last time

We are human

But it doesn’t feel right

Wrong.

To them this is okay

Is it their kids that are dying today?

They won’t ever know how it feels to be black

We wear a hat and we become a threat

When they see us they break a sweat

Not thinking twice before they pull that trigger

But it doesn’t matter right? Because i'm just a “n*****?”

They always said

Purity is white

It’ll never be equal between us two

Because we’re different colors

There’s nothing else to it

Black white and blue

Are just different shades

So why does it matter

It’s just a color isn’t it?

No.

Not to them.

Not to us.

Not to no one

Because we are black

But..

We are human.
