The Scale
On a scale to one to ten how sad are you?
You look back at the floor and back at me,
as i repeat the question.
On a scale to one to ten how sad are you?
you move your hair to the side and nervously smile through me.
You open your mouth as if you were going to say something
but quickly closing it without single sound.
You look back at me then at the floor.
Your eyes began to wonder as your mind spins searching
for the right thing to say or do.
You open your mouth again quickly shouting five
then you look off into the distances and say actually,
There is no level of pain; pain demands to be felt.
You feel up and down your arm as its covered
in endless memories of pain, You look back at me then
back at the ground then back at me once more.
You stared so deeply at the ground and at me
like you were trying to find answers, answers for why
the pain goes away. Maybe the answers are right in front of us
Maybe I was the one who made you stay.
