Worthless

Have you ever felt dead

in the water, floating nicely

with both your ears flooding,

full with little sound, just
what's not supposed to be

there, and there's something
stuck to your lashes, heavy

and thick, but also wet, and
not mascara, that's not what
drips, and we feel the weight
of our chest, we feel it bringing

us down, how do we live without
our bodies, and when the weather
is warm, and there's breeze out, we
feel big, like nothing could sink us
until pressure, water, ice, and we sit
up and feel it again, knocked back
down, it's the weight of the covers
and the next day burning light in your
eyes you wish were closed, it isn't
an ocean on top of me, I know of
shadows like this, that go away,
but never return.
