Do It for Them

Sun, 09/18/2016 - 21:13 -- Arika

“do do Do DOahhh do do Do DOaah-”

Swipe right to shut it up

Swing right to stand up

Take the towel; go to pee

Turn on the shower; brush my teeth

Shampoo; conditioner; eyes still closed

Makeup; deodorant; put on clothes

Shove my computer into my backpack

Set off downstairs; watch for the cat

Lunch in bag; breakfast in mouth

Refill my water; it’s time to head out

Every morning starts off the same

And yes it’s a dreary bleary pain

In the morning it’s get to class

No time to chat and don’t be late

Periods one through three could be fun, maybe not

But at lunch with my friends I’ll be laughing nonstop

In study hall we’ll whisper trying not to get caught

And after school we’ll wait together in the bus lot

On the ride home we’ll be texting in a group chat

Then we’ll compare our after school snacks

We’ll say goodbye briefly, homework calling us back

Into our own lonely lives where we are alone

...But

we all share at least one class surely I could ask-

No no just get the work done fast

Sure I go to school with a passion for learning

But it’s my pals that motivate me to move in the morning

Everyday I force through a bleary half asleep state

Just to make it back to the friends that I’ve made

I go to class for the mates who put a smile on my face

I leave the comfort of blankets for the ones I say goodnight with

For the inside jokes and puns and sneaky sidekicks

For the hugs and the good times and the friends I’ll soon miss
