The mistakes we make

The mistakes we make The mistakes we make, are ingrained in our hearts and burned on our brains. Their thick greasy film covering our eyes blinding us. Keeping us from seeing the light. They follow you and taunt you. You try to cut them out but mistakes aren't afraid of razors. They scream in your dreams turning them to nightmares. I'll keep them down, I'll ignore them you might say, but try as you may mistakes ride you till your dying day.   The mistakes we make are ingrained in our hearts and burned on our brains. The things we say come out the wrong way. The things we do we wish we never had to. Regret is instant as our words run away. They cut, they sting, you'll never be able to take us back they sing. The beat you and they teach you who's the boss. You didn't want to think before you acted and this is the cost. The irony of it is that this has happened before, nothing like this will ever happen again you swore. Mistakes are vicious and cruel they use and abuse, you never saw them coming you never knew who you'd lose.  The mistakes we make are ingrained in our hearts and burned on our brains, but they don't have to define us they can take us and they can rape us or we can acknowledge them. Yes I know you're there but to be honest I don't really care. I'm no longer plagued by guilt which is the burden you bear or or afraid to take this chance which is the lie that you share. Yes I made you but I don't have to dwell on you. I have a future too one that doesn't include you. I'm done trying to be and pretend to be something I'm not because of you. The mistake is yours you give it life you take it  The mistakes we make are ingrained in our  hearts and burned on our brains, but our mistakes do not define us.
