Broken Mirrors

All I need is healing and helping others to heal. This is what is most important to me. To show the world that I have a voice and they can too. We need to see our own self worth and that is what I can not live without.

Broken Mirrors

You see,
I have this theory that
All the mirrors in the universe
Are broken, faulty
Because I could not tell you the number
Of beautiful human beings who starve
Themselves because they feel the need
To fit into society's standards of beauty
I could not tell you the number
Of people who stare back at their reflection
And degrade themselves
Saying
I'm fat
I'm ugly
I'm stupid
I'm worthless
I am not good enough
I will never amount to anything
And it is society
That has molded this distorted view
Of ourselves
We have been taught that
We are echoes of everything we lack
Nothing more than a shack
For broken tools and unwanted toys
We are whispers
We crawl across cracked lips
Until we wither into a bored conversation piece
Between friends
And if we scream
Our voices cannot be heard
They flew away with the birds
Who refused to get their wings clipped
You know,
I'd thought I'd learned to embrace
Every fallacy in my blood
But I never did
I am still depleting my body of compliments
Stuck on repeat
I'm fat
I'm ugly
I'm worthless
I'm fat
I'm ugly
I'm worthless
I am still taking in the insults
Believing them all
And I can't complain if this only results in pain
Because when society said
You are not beautiful
I agreed
How many times have you been called
Worthless and forgot to ask
Worth less than what?
When did we get this preconceived notion
Of what a human being should be
As if a world of individuals
Should be judged on the same means
Aren't we all just human?
Aren't we all wondering
If we are leaving footprints on this world
That are worth following
Isn't that all that matters?
That we are making an impact?
That we are changing lives?
But instead we are asking ourselves if we are good enough
And society will tell us we will never be able
To live up to its standards of beauty
Well I am here today to tell you
That you
You are a beautiful human being
Who is worth everything in the world
And you are more than enough.
