Tidal Pull

Do you not hear the call of the sea?

The tidal pull and soulful sway:

A strain on the heart which longs to be free.

“Let us spend summer in Grand Isle”, said he,

“Days in the sun we’ll waste away,

Do you not hear the call of the sea?”

“Ah! Si tu savais,” sweetly sang He,

“Do not forget me, for I’ll return one day.”

A strain on the heart which longs to be free.

“Your talent is immense, dear!,” droned on she.

she may live free of life’s delirium, but I say

“Do you not hear the call of the sea?”

“Freedom calls for strong wings,” poignantly played She

a soft Impromptu to the music of gentle tear spray:

a strain on the heart which longs to be free.

Broken winged, talon-less, and talentless I flee

Only me at Grand Isle and the coiled serpents at bay,

Do you not hear the call of the sea?

A strain on the heart longing to be free.
