Metronome
Metronome
A broken metronome of breathe and beat
Silence shattered by only exhalation
Between long pauses
And monitor blips
A mummy unwrapped
Barely more than a skeleton with skin
Hidden below bright sheets
Sucking in stale air
A scream breaks the stillness
Shouts at apparitions
Fall to stoic family members
And the beige cracked walls
The silence regains hold
And the metronome stops
The monitor’s whines turn to screeches
The room floods
