I Am Human
Under everything I am human
I was put here to love
Regardless of the color of my skin
Or who I choose to love
My skin may be too black to fit in with the whites
My voice may sound too white to fit in with the blacks
But that’s okay
Being different is okay
Embrace it
I live in a world where I am barely accepted
A world where strangers support me
and loved ones don’t
A world where I’ll get shot dead by a white man and blamed
I am diligent because I have to be
I am a black queer man so I have no choice
But under everything I am human
I was put here to love
This poem is about:
Me
My family
My community
Our world
