My Kingdom (The Beauty of Childhood)
Sat back to watch the branches sway
A sea of grass before me.
No screen to stare at through the day,
For nature was my movie.
My callused feet had walked these grounds
And never stopped or faltered.
No need to drive away to church
For nature was my altar.
I’d chase my kitty through the grass
Avoiding sticks and thistles.
No knowledge, then, of death or war
No thought of guns or missiles.
When I’m alone my mind will run
Right back into my childhood.
My life was simple, happy, clean,
And easily understood.
Back when the big bad world was mine,
And times were never hard.
I had a kingdom built for me
Right there in my backyard.
