Grandpa D

The pain is excruciating.

My insides pulse and strain as my mind remembers.
I desperately try to divert my attention somewhere else, anywhere else.
I glance out the window to the sun, and I find solace in the fact that I know it's you.

The throbbing of my head hasn't stopped,
And the tears continue to stream down my cheeks.
I desperately try to divert my attention somewhere else, anywhere else.
I glance to my side and am greeted with the brilliant reflection on the full moon,
and I find solace in the fact that I know it's you.

Hours later,
I sift through memories.
I no longer want to stop the crying,
I no longer try to divert my mind.
The pain reminds me how important
You were and still are to me.

And I love and miss you dearly.

I'll see you in the funny papers, Grandpa D.
