Pretending
You stare with this speck in your eye that glistens when I speak.
I may soon assume you love me.
I give you gentle touch like you were once in my womb.
You may soon assume I need you.
This is a mirage.
We are familiar strangers.
We don't speak the same love language.
We communicate in fear.
I am afraid I'll miss the way your scent lingers void in my heart when distance is between us.
You worry that I'll shatter in your absence and another stranger will pick up my pieces and mend me.
I am stainless steel.
Let's not pretend anymore.
Let's abandon these ties and unleash wings to fly.
Let's be free.
