they ask how i can know
for sure i like girls
as if it is a question up for debate
like you would choose this life
just to experience the hate and
the pressure and the pain

I am a soldier.
Fighting a war I never enlisted in,
a fight I don't wanna lend another fist in.
I am a soldier...
Standing on the battlegrounds of war
praying to God saying I can't do this no more.
Don’t tell me I’m not gay.
The “phases” are phrases you like to throw out
When you’re angry face goes to the riots to shout.
How dare you call me out on a “fault”
Like there’s somebody I am going to assault.
I saw duke's campaign
just the other day,
and learned alot of reasons
for words we shouldn't say
" I don't say man up
because I don't believe in gender norms"
MAN UP!
YOU'R A BOY!
Choice is a conscious decisions
We choose what we wear
And what we say
And what we do
But Love is not a choice
Love is a feeling
Mysterious and dangerous
Silently screaming
I know the reason for all the hatred.
Cuz I'm an African-American gay chick.
Cuz I don't listen rap.
I listen to rock.
Cuz I want the cheerleader.
Never the jock.
Cuz I am wearing a sweater
Your body was not meant to be a battlefield
nor your vertebrates land mines
war does not belong on your fingernails
but the spaces between them echo with fire
of guns aimed at something deeper than flesh.
