Black Queen
Angry, irate, ghetto, depressed and oppressed
That’s the stereotype they give us
Loud talking hand clappin, ginger snappin’ wanna be heard sistas going
SOME SAY THAT WE ARE UNWILLING TO
UNITE...
THAT WE AREN'T STRONG ENOUGH TO WIN THE FIGHT...
WELL I BELIEVE IF WE STAND AS ONE WE WILL BECOME ONE NATION...
I PRAY THAT WE CAN BE PROUD OF WHAT ARE KIDS WILL BECOME..
To be strong,
To be powerful.
To be young,
And to be mighty.
Land of the free,
Home of the brave.
America is beautiful,
Many voices cry out in agony,
Many voices are left out.
Many voices are heard in the outrage,
Many voices are left out.
Many voices have many perspectives,
Many voices ignore many voices,
Standing Rock, so brave and free.
It seems the rest of the world, they don't see, the police aren't here to protect you and me.
My presence may not be felt there, but my mind travels far.
Walking Closely in Brotherhood
By: Alesiya Walker
Only God can create peaceful unity,
Lost in common misconceptions
and perceptions
From society's closed eyes
Searching for direction
In the darkness of deception
Deciphering the lies
With my mind's eye
Most might say joy, love, hope, and sleep,
However, I prefer the beauty of silence,
With its daunting tones,
And comfort it brings when I weep,
The dramatic scene fostered by the cut of sirens.
I am America, and I am the greatest country on Earth
I take pride in my journey, destined for power since birth
Like a mosaic, I am made of many stones and pieces
Together as one, the American spirit never ceases
Stand up and fight! We are the desperate kidsWe are stronger if we uniteLet's do what the world forbids
How is it that all of us poets live separate lives,
never meeting, never speaking, never working together,
yet our voices are so similar?
The way we all write,
there is something that unites us,
17 years young still don’t know who I am
17 years young I still don’t understand
Without the music, the pictures, the friends
I still try hard to make a trend
I just got to comprehend
I’m not one who has an alter ego,a lie people create when they’re feeling shallow,an ideal to covet and try to uphold, when in reality they are much less bold.
This world.
Yes. This one
The one you're a part of
Is dying
The United States falls
The Middle East quarrels
The world is gripped by panic, and fear
Pestilence
War
Poverty
Geocentric?
More like ethnocentric.
America is the center of the world, right?
The world that revolves around me. My world.
Egocentric.
If I had the power to change things
I would not change much
Just the direction of my feet
When the ground is hard and
Laden with a cobbled facade
I would change the sound of a tragedy
"Mommy, can I be skinny like those girls on T.V?"
I hear these words and put my head in shame.
"Mommy, can we go to McDonalds today?"
I hear this constantly and feel the same.
Be this your occupation
Or unholy mutilation
We walk the earth in unity
United in our scrutiny
We as a people are capable of so much
We must use each other as a clutch
We as a people must rise to the majestic heights
So we can fight this battle like a medieval knight
"Momma, you are a vivacious woman with enormous potential."
"Son, the corrupt has taken away my innocence."
"But you have given us all birth."
In the eyes of God we are all the same. Human. One life. One name.
So why cant people realize that we are all the same?
I dont care what color your skin shines and soaks in.
I dont care if your gay, straight or lesbian.
After the storm comes the rainbow,
Vivacious colors splitting the grey.
After the clouds shines the sun,
Shining light through the tears of the sky.
Storms are alive, in you, in me, in the world.
My splattered blood dries
over the newly cemented pavement
where my head collided,
after my back got soaked and bruised
from the fire hydrant
cause I'm fighting the tyrant
of segregation. You can crush
