Because I love you
I say I'm okay when they ask me what's wrong
Because I love you
I say I tripped over the rug when they see my bruise
Because I love you
I want you to know I love you.
I know I lied, and I cheated, and I hated
I cried, and I used, and I baited
I ran, and I screamed, and I fled
I hit, and I slapped, I mislead
But I want you to know I love you
When I was eight I met you,
I was friends with your little brother,
You were two years older,
But to me you were just another figure when I came over.
For all my life I was taught
Love was something that should not be sought
To be pathetically vying for attention
Begging desperately for affection
Who can fix the broken hearted
I still remember the very first time I met you:
We were just kids then, who believed in the idea of forever and always.
And we were just two kids then, who believed in the whole:
Because you love me,
you know when to be
patient,
gentle,
forgiving,
uplifting.
Because you love me,
you know when to take
one step back
and let me b r e a t h e.
The first step to loving
is acceptance.
Acceptance of their actions now,
and the acceptance of their actions later.
Acceptance of one’s past,
"Because I Love You"
Was Her reason, Her cloak
"We're surviving, not broke.
Be grateful." No hope
