Do you remover the first time you saw a plus sized man in a movie?
On TV?
In your local theater show?
What did he look like?
Did he smile?
Did he laugh so full his tummy shook?
There is no end in site.
Stereotypes exist because of..:
Muslims who blow things up,
Christians who wrongfully judge,
The pink flowery dress, is what I hate the most
To be honest, its quiet actually gross.
Why when I wear it, am I seen normal?
How much longer do I have to continue dressing formal?
You're beautiful underneath, they said
But beautiful underneath only goes so far.
I am just a girl.
Unaware and overdressed.
Spent too long looking in the mirror
You weren’t there I guess
I’m tired of these white boys
Saying I'm not “black enough”
I “act white” and “talk white”
So I don’t match their model
We go to school for about twelve years, but we have issues on the way to success.
As we get older, the environment becomes more dangerous.
The police become sinister and begin to destroy how God made us.
I'd rather be a free, black sheep of a soul
or stiffer than a piece of coal
than be bound at the neck, wrist, and ankles
by the chains of labels and stereotypes
When you look at me,
do you see a statistic?
Do you see 3/4 of a person?
Do you see a man?
Or a color?
Are you blinded by a stereotype?
Or looking deeper to the character?
attention, affection,
hugs so tight!
He's invincible-
brighter than the stars at night.
a doctor, an astronaut,
Singer in a band,
books in his mind
are a future in his hand
Everyday is the same as yesterday
I fight to be a new me but it always flees
The chance to change my families name itches at my mind
That new me must come up and rise
Eighteen years have come
And soon they will be gone
For what I have dreamed of
Is no reality
Raised in the West
With the ideals of the East
Standing out as an individual
I'm "that girl".
The one that everyone wants to be.
All the parents point at me.
I have the great grades.
Looks like I've got it all made.
I'm blonde and blue-eyed.
Every morning she wake up
wash her face
paint on her socially acceptable face and pretends
I am the picture of a stereotype
I must have been
I was called "vampire" in school, after all
I am a spitting image of the girl you picture
If I explained myself to you
We are surrounded by people and things,
By those who are chained and by those who have wings,
By those who love life and dare to dream,
And by those who are scared to even be seen.
Welcome to Chicanos- r-us
We service all of your needs
Will school principals go to isle 12?
We still have a few janitors here
Desperate for a job
Yes, they are Mexican
Ready for their graveyard shift
Before my foot can fully pass the threshold of your door, I already know what you’re thinking.
"I like a long-haired, thick red bone", he saysas he yanks her, drags her, and spreads her legs. Her mouth is sewn shut, but her body screams, "more!"because her man on the screen showers her in Gucci and Couture.
I finally realized to open my eyes
just to find myself blinded by the minds of the stereotypical
I never dreamed of a scheme
such that I would believe to achieve
They say I will not succeed
why judge ?
they say I will fall behind in every class
proved wrong !
They say I will be an outcast , looked upon with pity
not even !
This is to my boys,
The ones who call me shawdy
I’ll always remember you,
And one of my treasures you’ll be
Tats and goldchains,
Pants saggy and free.
Will always be a lesson
hey you
no way you are an indian..................you're light skin
hey you
no way you are a taino.................you're simply too dark
hey you
When you look at me, what do you see.
You see the blackness of my skin.
You see the brown in my eyes.
The nappinest of my hair.
Should I speak slang to you,
or wear my pants hang low so you can see my boxer?
Everyone keeps staring at me
My belly swells and my feet hurt
I didnt ask for this change
I didnt ask for this experience
stop staring at me please
judging me in your head
whispers in the shadow of my back
