Youth

You told me that youth is wasted on the young,

But I never asked for this.

I asked for help.

I asked for love.

I asked for self-control.

For good grades and good skin and good friends;

I never asked to be young.

Never wanted this anger

Or sadness

Or hormones

Or pimples

Or this feeling of vacancy

That no matter what I do

Or who I am with

I cannot escape.

You can take my youth,

All I want is sanity.
