You was there for me

You was there for me

Knowing this was a challenge

from nine hours of labor

to bringing me into this world.

You was there for me

when I first learned how to crawl

pulling things down, eating big girl food

and drawing pictures on the wall.

You was there for me

for my first day of school,

as you held my hand and walked me into class

then waited all day to see me as the hours went pass.

You was there for me

when you taught me how to pray,

get on my knees, close my eyes

and ask God to save the day.

You was there for me

when I lost my best friend,

you gave me the strength everyday

to fight and get back up again.

You was there for me

you taught me how to be a young woman

to treat yourself with respect, to be kind

and to let nobody tell you that you wasn't beautiful.

I am now getting ready to walk across

the stage and go into the real world

with all the knowledge you gave me,

although we may be miles apart

I know you will still be there for me .
