You Tell Me

My generation has been bred into stupidity

A government issue codependency

High on freedom then drowning in debt

I still can’t balance a checkbook yet

My math teacher fails me because I won’t call him master

But you’ll give me detention when I won’t let you harass her

You dismantle the arts and ridicule her people

For daring to do something you never could dream to

Standing up for what you believe?

Keep your mouth shut or you’ll learn what it means to bleed.

When we turn eighteen we can smoke we can die

For our country’s flag raised up high

You tell me I’ll regret my tattoos, that I’m too young to understand

Yet you expect me to have the next ten years planned

A generation of parents telling us sink or swim

To the most poorly prepared lot of them
